Project Description: Base Hospital Sri Lanka


Upgrading of Base Hospital Embilipitiya, Sri Lanka

Partners:         Caritas Austria; Ministry of Health and Uwalassa Development, Sri Lanka; World Health Organisation (WHO); Technisches Hilfswerk, Germany (THW)

In the aftermath of the Tsunami disaster in South Asia in 2005, IASCI was tasked by Caritas Austria to identify and implement a medical assistance programme in Sri Lanka. Together with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health, WHO and THW, the Base Hospital in Embilipitiya was selected and a detailed programme for upgrading this facility was developed. In this context, IASCI carried out the following projects:

-          Design of an Emergency Ambulance System

-          Construction of new Water and Sanitation network (for THW)

-          Construction of Laboratory and Blood bank

-          Equipping of Maternity Ward

-          Installation of IT Network (in co-operation with WHO)
