Nicolaas de Zwager, Director and CEO

By bringing extensive, practical and hands-on experience to the issue of field-based information management, both from the private and public sectors, the Director of IASCI, Mr. Nicolaas de Zwager, has been instrumental in the genesis and development of SCI research norms and communication methodologies.

Operationally and strategically he maintained overall responsibility for the following SCI-based projects:

bullet

 the Repatriation Information Centre (RIC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, carried out in collaboration with UNHCR and SFOR (NATO); 

bullet

 the Kosovo Information Project (KIP), jointly implemented with the International Organization for Migration (IOM); and, 

bullet

 SCIS Sri Lanka, a project jointly implemented with the Office of the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. 

Working in the Balkan region from January 1998 to April 2004, Mr. de Zwager, founded and directed the Source Country Information Systems (SCIS); an autonomous and wholly self-financing Department within the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

Prior to 1998, Mr. de Zwager was with International Organisation for Migration (IOM), as Chief of Mission in Kyiv Ukraine. Working for five years in the countries of the CIS he held field postings with the United Nations;  primarily in the areas of economic development and integration. Representing clients in Europe, Asia and North America he spent 10 years in the private sector identifying investment and market opportunities, as well as participating in negotiations leading to Joint Ventures, Technology Exchange and related initiatives within the People’s Republic of China.

Mr. de Zwager holds graduate degrees in International Economic Relations from the University of Victoria (Canada) and the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands).
